Citizens’ “whirlwind campaign” makes voices heard, surprises DOT

The Sioux City Journal has covered the story of how “more than 400″ Sioux Center residents mobilized to halt the Main Ave. expansion, albeit temporarily.

People now know that their voice does matter. Within the first two days, we had over 400 petitions returned to us.”

The SCJ also quotes Dakin Schultz, a district planner for the DOT: “Up until (Wednesday) night, as far we knew, the project was moving forward,” Schultz said. “I was not aware of how the meeting was going to go. I was surprised as well.”

We look forward to working with the DOT and the City Council on a workable alternative to a 5 lane expansion.
